Top 10 Everquest Items - These are the most sought after items, as listed on GameSpy.
The Fishbone Earring attained cult status early on in EverQuest's existence because it allows players to breath underwater indefinitely. One of the most elusive zones in the game is Kedge Keep - an entire city underwater - and this item removes the need for spells, time constraints and other worries. It drops off a Barbarian chap in Qeynos Hills called Hadden, and to this day, poor old Hadden is camped night and day on most servers. The Fishbone Earring still sells for around 3000-4000pp - or around $40 on eBay - and was one of the first heavily camped items in the game.

The ultimate prized possession of the hundreds of Paladin characters in EverQuest. This 2-Handed sword if the result of a massively dangerous quest that involves killing very high level NPC characters, and then finally going to an alternate Plane of existence. Not for the amateur, you'll certainly benefit from being a member of a guild that's willing to take a few deaths in order to get the weapon for you. The sword itself was one of the first and only weapons to have a animated appearance - with a constant burning flame running up and down the blade - and everyone stopped dead in awe when a Fiery Avenger wielding Paladin ran past. Still hard to get and because of this fact, the weapon is not tradable with other players.

Bestowing a lovely +9 to both Wisdom and Intelligence E-boots are probably the most sought after footwear by casting classes in the game. E-boots are one the possible rewards you get when you slay the Efreeti Lord who is located in Solusek Dungeon B, quite a hike to get down to him and it's not always an easy camp but it's well worth the effort. Even if you can't use the E-Boots you can always auction them off for a hefty profit or simply trade them away for an item(s) of equal value.
The average Price ~ 9-12,000pp

There is a little gnome Necromancer that spawns randomly in Qeynos Hills called Pyzjn. She appears very rarely, but is in possession of A Glowing Black Stone that drives players wild. Pyzjn rarely lives more than a few minutes before being bludgeoned to death for her valued item. When equipped, the players shield hand is surrounded by a glowing red aura - almost like an invisible shield - so the GBS is still one of the coolest looking bits of kit in the game. Players tell tall tales on EQ boards of camping the GBS for over 150 hours real time. And frankly, we can believe it. The average price for one of these items currently runs at around 23,000pp

In the bowels of Lower Guk there is a Ghoul Arch Magi who when killed either drops a worthless pair of Silversilk leggings or if luck is in the air will bestow a lucky individual with the sought after SMR. Out side of the Planes and before The Ruins of Kunark was released the SMR was the most desired of all robes for pure casters in the game and could easily be bought and sold for 20,000+ platinum. The SMR could also be used as a way to tell the high level people from the low level people, of course that's not the case anymore, but one could feel proud after obtaining this robe and know that people, especially other casters, will be eyeing you with envy. The time spent camping for this robe has been as short as an hour to as long as three straight real life days, yes someone sat in front of their computer for three whole days before the Arch Magi dropped the SMR. Average Price ~ 8,000pp

Armor Class 10, +9 Intelligence, +8 Save vs. Fire, +8 Save vs. Cold.

It's been a long time since the Box of Abu-Kar was taken out of the game (Those that were able to obtain them still have them). There wasn't anything special you had to do to obtain this magnificent item, you simply had to kill an NPC that was level 45 and there was a very small chance that you would get a box, a very small chance. Anything you put inside the box had its weight reduced by 100% until you removed it; Monks in particular loved this item. The item that replaced the Box of Abu-Kar is the Tinkers Bag, which has the same weight reducing effect but instead of killing NPCs for it you have to buy the bag in a semi-dangerous dungeon for a hefty $5,000pp. Average Price ~ 19,000pp

Before the Ruins of Kunark came out the Flowing Black Silk Sash was and still is one of the most sought after items by melee classes. When worn the FBSS increases the character's attack speed by about 25%. The player's delay between attacks would be decreased per round thus increasing the amount of damage done. The FBSS is dropped off the Frenzied Ghoul who is located in the depths of Lower Guk, a rather nasty NPC in a rather nasty dungeon. FBSS camps can last anywhere from a couple hours to even days, real life days that is.
Average Price ~ 10,000pp

Remembering the days when you saw your first Rubicite Armor were very special times indeed. In the beginning, EverQuest had very few unique-looking sets of armor, but the rarest and most sought after plate-style armor was Rubicite. Deep red in color with a metallic sheen, the single most impressive piece of Rubicite was the breastplate. The breastplate has the magical ability to regenerate hit points while it is being worn, so many troll warriors had crazy regen abilities for a while. Sadly, Rubicite caused immense camping and was seen to be unbalanced for the general overall harmony of EverQuest. As such, Rubicite armor has been removed from the day to day EverQuest experience, and is only found now when special GM-run events are played. A shame, but lets all raise a glass to the breastplate - one of the original baddass pieces of armor. Average price these days for the breastplate ~ 18,000pp

A long time ago in a dungeon known as Nejena located in the magma zone of Lavastorm there lived a Necromancer named Drelzna, ok so Drelzna is still there but she doesn't drop the Jboots anymore. At the time though Drelzna was a very popular and heavily camped NPC by every class in EverQuest when she did drop the JBoots. Jboot camps would last anywhere from an hour or two to as long as a whole real life day, sometimes even longer. These boots would increase the characters movement significantly allowing players to out run most monsters with ease, clear large zones in no time at all, and even allow some casting classes the ability to kite monsters (meaning the monster trails behind you, you stop, cast offensive spell, repeat until monster is dead) with out asking a Druid or a Shaman for an SoW (Spirit of the Wolf, a spell similar to the Jboots effect but a tad faster). Now the only way to obtain a pair of Jboots is to quest for them.

The Manastone is hands-down the most talked-about, petitioned-about and infamous item ever in the history of EverQuest. This exceptionally rare item was removed from the game entirely pretty soon after it was put in. Verant allowed players that already had one to keep them, but the Manastone was altered so that it would not work on any of the Planes or in the Ruins of Kunark expansion pack, and then removed it from the treasure database. So what's so special about the Manastone? Well, the only function it has is covert hit points into mana (a 3:1 ratio), so effectively a caster can drain his own health in order to cast more spells. Bring a cleric's healing spells into play, and you've got a much desired "mana battery." Very helpful for killing lots of nasty powerful creatures swiftly! Verant admitted that the Manastone was a very unbalanced item, but it remains the single most famous and revered item in the entire game. Hell, some of the newer servers never even had the option to get them into circulation. If you see one going cheap, buy it!
